Has Solar Energy Reached a Tipping Point in BC?
Posted by karen in News, Our News, on December 21, 2015Eleven years ago we became the first contractor to install a grid-tie solar energy system in Vancouver (and as far as we know, the first one in BC). Over the decade since then, we have installed a range of residential, commercial and institutional systems. However, we have never seen a year like 2015.
This year we installed more kW of solar energy than we did in any other year. In fact, we installed more this year than the previous 10 years combined.
And we don’t think that we are the only ones who are witnessing this explosive growth. All indications are that there has been a significant increase this year in distributed renewable energy systems here on Canada’s west coast.
What is interesting is that the media (both traditional and social media) has paid little attention to this trend. You will still see lots of stories about the growth of clean energy in the US and Europe but little attention is paid to what is happening here in BC. Of course, our market is still much smaller than the US, Europe or even Ontario. But if the current trend continues, that will likely change.
